Do You Think Jesus Will Return In Our Lifetime?

From the Show

Do you think Jesus will come in our lifetime?

On one hand, I'm really glad I grew up in a church that emphasized Jesus could come any day. That is the New Testament teaching. On the other hand, sometimes that was so emphasized, and they were reading the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other. Here's where the danger comes, we should always be in a posture of "he could come any minute." But not, he will come Thursday…. Peter says [in[ 2 Peter 3:8-9, “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that to the Lord one day is 1,000 years and 1,000 years is one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise, as some count slowness, but rather he's patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance…” What would have happened to you, Peter is saying, to you Gentiles, if Jesus had not opened up a space for repentance and faith in him? So, it's all good news that Jesus has not come back yet because he is still building his church, he's still gathering people from every nation into his body, and we should be part of that. — Michael Horton
