How Can I Gain Victory Over My Sin?

From the Show

How can I gain victory over my sin?

What do we mean by victory over sin? That's the question. Victory over sin is what Jesus did. Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day conquering sin and death. So, he's gained the victory over sin. Now, the question is how do we share in his victory over sin and death? Paul tells us in Romans 6, being buried with him in baptism we die to sin, and are raised with him in newness of life. We are new creatures in Christ. We really do have victory over the tyranny of sin, over the dominion of sin. That's why Paul says, “sin shall no longer reign over you,” he's saying this is a statement of fact, if you're united to Christ, sin doesn't reign over you. Sometimes we have setbacks and think with Paul, “O wretched man that I am, what I want to do I, I don't do, what I don't want to do I keep on doing. Who will deliver me from this body of death?” And he looks to Christ, “thanks be to God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Objectively, sin is destroyed. Satan is held in chains. — Michael Horton
