How Do We Worship in Spirit and Truth?

From the Show

Do felt needs matter?

If the questions I'm asking because of my felt needs are, “how can I be happier, healthier, more self confident?” then the gospel won't make any sense. It's just not the answer to those questions. We need better questions, not just better answers. We don't come to Christianity saying, “I have the right questions, now, just apply the Bible to my life to answer those questions for me.” How could a book, the Bible, whose main message from Genesis to Revelation is the historical outworking of God's plan to send his Messiah to save the world through His death and resurrection, how's that going to help me get organized in my garage? If that's what I'm asking, then the Bible will just be useless and irrelevant. I need first of all to know what my deeper problem is, it's deeper than getting my act together organizing my garage, it's deeper than my having lost my job, all of these are really important things to the Lord, but Jesus did not die on a cross and rise again the third day so that we could have our best life. He just didn't. — Michael Horton

Questions in this Episode

1. As a single mother, I have a lot of stress in raising kids. At the church I attend there is a lot of pressure to send your kids to a Christian school or to home-school. I can’t afford to do either. Is it a sin to send your kids to public school? Will I fail as a mom if I can’t find another option?

2. In John 4 where Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that there will come a time where true worshipers will worship in Spirit and in truth does this mean that it doesn’t matter where we worship? Does this mean that we don’t have to go to an official church?

3. On another episode, I have heard you say that the Bible is not about us and that we get too caught up with felt needs. I don’t think I’m understanding you right. Are you saying that felt needs don’t matter?

4. I have been taught about the Trinity. I don't understand it. It's not mentioned in the Bible. I believe in God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But why do people teach the Trinity?
