If I Fail to Share the Gospel, Will Jesus Deny Me?
From the Show
If I fail to share the Gospel, will Jesus deny me?
After explaining once again that we're saved by grace, not by works, Paul tells us in Romans 10 beginning at verse 9, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved…." You can't be a private Christian while you refuse to acknowledge him as Savior and Lord before the church and the world. It's not just an inner conviction, an inner thing between you and Jesus. It's a public thing, a communal thing. And the context of the verses you refer to in Matthew 10 is Jesus' preparation of his disciples for the coming persecution. The same thing in 2nd Timothy 2, beginning in verse 10: "Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for if we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself." — Michael Horton
