Why Did God Allow Satan in the Garden of Eden?

From the Show

Why did God allow Satan in the Garden of Eden?

It helps to realize that God does everything for His glory, and for a larger purpose than, “am I having a good day?” He's weaving all events together into a tapestry that really highlights his redemptive work. On one hand, we don't want to say more than the Bible says, as you rightly point out here, Adriel; but, we do know God does everything for His glory, for his name's sake, and that the story we get from Genesis to Revelation is the greatest story ever told. That whole plot, that whole story, wouldn't be there unless God had chosen to glorify himself in his Son. Redemption is a greater work than creation. And God glorifies himself more by our salvation than he does even in creation itself. That's an amazing thing to ponder. — Michael Horton

Questions in this Episode

1. How does striving in the Christian life fit with relying on the Spirit? It seems like the more I struggle against sin the less progress I make.

2. Why did God allow Satan in the Garden of Eden and why was he allowed to tempt Eve the way he did? Why didn't God just smite Satan, before the Fall, when he rebelled in Heaven?

3. You speak of Romans and Hebrews, but what about Acts, where God's people are filled with the Holy Spirit and as a sign, they spoke in tongues? To me that is a reason to be assured of salvation. What do you think?

4. Does Revelation 22:17 teach that anyone can be saved? If this is so, then why doesn’t God save everyone?

5. What does the Bible say about suicide?
