In the bible fasting is associated with times of calamity and repentance. It is a period of time where we set our eyes upon the Lord, set aside distractions, and say, “God I want to draw near to you because I need you.” But it is not the church’s job to impose fasts as commandments on people within the church and to impose burdens on them.
