Is It Possible to Lose Your Salvation?

From the Show

Can you lose your salvation

Esau was a member of the covenant people, but he rejected his birthright for a pot of stew. Don't be like Esau. Don't just belong outwardly to God's people without being inwardly, and savingly united to Christ through faith. Nobody is losing their salvation here in Romans chapter 11, rather they're losing their status, their covenantal membership in Christ's body, because they don't actually embrace Christ as their vine through the means that he has provided all along in the visible church; they hear the word they've been baptized, they take the Lord’s Supper…a lot of people say, “well, yeah they’re Christians,” but do they really trust in Jesus Christ? Have they personally been united to Jesus Christ through a true and living faith? I think that's what he's talking about [in Romans 11]. There's no mention that they were sharing in that life of Christ and then were broken off. Rather, they were sharing in the menorah, the tree of Israel, but we know that not all who are descendants of Israel are Israel — Michael Horton
