Episode 26 Show Notes

From the Show

How does the gospel help someone struggling with an addiction like pornography?

It's easy just to say, well, the gospel is enough even for people struggling with porn. It is enough for the guilt, but pornography is one of those sins that gets its tentacles in you, and it's really hard to extricate yourself from it- and yet it's not the unpardonable sin. There is no sin that Christ's blood doesn't cover and the Holy Spirit can't release us from on the basis of the assured status of justification, that is, being declared righteous in Christ. And that's a great position to fight from. Like everything else, Satan warps what God made good. But God made [sex] such a rich and amazing and central gift to our humanity that when it's warped, it really warps us at the core of who we are….There's more shame involved, not because there is more guilt, more objective guilt before God, but because it touches us at the very core of our identity and how God made us. —Michael Horton
