What's the Difference Between God's Discipline and God's Judgment?

From the Show

What is the difference between God’s discipline and God’s judgment?

So, in times like these, you need to remember that God is good. I mean I'm not just saying, don't worry be happy. No, I'm saying, how do you objectively know? Forget the subjective feelings. You might feel like God is punishing you for past sins, but don't disagree with the Gospel. The Gospel says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1), God cannot punish you for past sins. Cannot. Why? Because he's just. He can't collect a debt twice, nor does he want to. Christ has born the penalty for your sin, there is no penalty left. And that's why John can say, "if we confess our sins, he's faithful and just," not just merciful, but faithful and just, "to forgive us our sins." Why? Because it would be unjust for God not to forgive your sins if you're truly in Christ. — Michael Horton

Questions in this Episode

1. The Bible is filled with signs, wonders, and miracles, but I don't see this in my church. Should we expect to see these today?

2. How does Hebrews 6 fit with the idea of backslidden Christians being restored? Is it really possible to be restored to faith after falling away?

3. In the book of Philippians, Paul says that he came to consider everything as a loss for the sake of Christ. How can we come to that same conclusion?

4. I’m wondering if you can explain the difference between God’s discipline and God’s judgment? I feel like God might be punishing me for past sins.
